A Little Wish List ~ January 2015

There are some gorgeous new (and old) products on the market that I'm really excited to hopefully get my hands on. These are my top five...

Limited Edition Clarins Garden Escape 6 Colour Eye Palette. Clarins have announced the launch of their Garden Escape collection for spring 2015 and this stunning palette is one of the things I am most desperate to try out. I love the soft shimmery earth shades and how luxurious the packaging is. Ughh I need it! £32.00.

Makeup Revolution The One Fluid Blusher - Pink Sea. Makeup Revolution is a brand that is certainly taking the beauty world by storm and though I've got a couple of pro bits from them I don't feel I've experimented anywhere near enough in their makeup range. I've not yet tried a fluid blush so I'll definitely be investing in this and just look how gorgeous the colour is. £3.00.

Max Factor CC Stick for under eye circles. I have awful dark circles under my eyes so I'm willing to try anything to hide them. I love a good colour correcting concealer and putting it in a stick? Perfect for targeting the delicate eye area. £8.99.

Essie Bahama Mama. While this isn't a new release it is a gorgeous dark plum nail colour that I would like to add to my collection. Perfect for the winter months we're currently in. £8.00.

Superliner Smokissme Black Smoke (100). This product is not like anything I've seen before and it interests me immensely. The idea behind this odd shaped liner product is that it creates the perfect smokey eye in one stroke - while lining your eyes the curved tip smudges the colour around the rest of the lid. Currently available in Black Smoke or Brown Smoke at Superdrug. £7.99.

Polyvore | Winter Wear

Winter Wear

Winter Wear by beautyshine featuring a black coat

I don't know about you but for me it's been a long week and I couldn't be happier that it's Friday. To celebrate, today I'm sharing with you some of my favourite winter wear from Polyvore. Have you noticed I love this website yet?

Where I live we have been well and truly hit with the winter weather recently, from gail force winds and heavy rain to a very brief hit of snow. With weather like this every day a good pair of boots is an absolute essential. I chose these brown ankle boots because the wooden sole will give a sturdy base to walk on and I'm sure they'd go with any outfit. I like the fluffy insides too! Also, as a farm girl I couldn't not include a pair of wellies. Personally, mostly due to them catering for my big feet and wide calves, I am a loyal Buckbootz wearer but I do love the look of this polka dot pair from John Lewis and I've no doubt they'd be good enough for splashing in puddles and those long walks on dryer days.

Next up is nails. Throughout the winter I love the darker colours, last year Essie After School Boy Blazer was my favourite and this year I am loving the look of Bahama Mama. To protect the mani and keep your hands warm you of course need a good pair of gloves and weather you want practical or pretty I've got you covered. Personally the aztec pair from Roxy are my favourites, though the kitty mittens are adorable.

When it comes to keep the head warm (did you know most of your body heat is lost through the head?) I just can't deal with hats. They never fit properly or they cover my eyes or don't cover my ears. I much prefer a knit head band such as the gorgeous one shown. What do you think, hat or headband?

I'm not even going to go into my love of knit jumpers and scarves again but as always you can use the links to go to my polyvore page and check everything else out for yourself. Do you have any winter wear favourites? Are you a pretty or practical gal? I'd love to know.

M&S Sparkling Lemon Verbena Gift Set

Some time last year I was given the Sparkling Lemon Verbena bath & body gift set from Nature's Extracts at Marks and Spencer. I can't find it anywhere online so I can't tell you the price but it's so lovely.

Inside comes a 200ml moisturising body butter in a pot, a 200ml tube of moisturising body butter light and a little 10g pot of moisturising lip balm. Overall a lot of moisturising goodness for your body. Everything is packaged in pale yellow with a black floral pattern on the front. The sizes are perfect for travel and I adore the delicious citrus-y smell.

My favourite product is the lip balm. It's quite thick and gloopy but refreshingly zesty and super moisturising, you can really feel it working and it leaves lips lusciously soft. I've been keeping it at my bedside and using it morning and night and I've not had a dry lip in sight. £2.50 sold separately

Next up is the body butter. This is a luxuriously thick, whipped cream that is a delight to use. I simply rub it all over my body and my skin feels so smooth and I smell great, even if I do say so myself. The best time to use this is at night time because it kind of makes me want to just slip into bed and go to sleep. £6.00 sold separately

Finally the body butter light. This is my favourite of the two and is the same product as before but the consistency is much, well, lighter and also contains cocoa butter. I like to use this one mostly on my legs after a shower, it leaves them silky soft. Both body butters sink into the skin like a dream. Not sold separately.

Overall this was a really lovely gift that I'm getting lots of use out of. There are also lots of other flavours (is that the right word?) to choose from. So whether you want to spoil yourself or treat a friend, I recommend a visit to M&S.

As Manx As The Hills

I love where I live and I'm not at all ashamed to say so. Where most seventeen year olds living on the Isle of Man spend their time complaining that there is no decent entertainment or a lack of social attractions I genuinely appreciate living so rurally. I love my island's beauty and take pride in my surroundings. How cringey is that then?

Wherever I am there is always a gorgeous beach to walk on, stunning landscape to admire or a glen or plantation to explore no more than 10 minutes away from me in any direction.

One of my all time favourite places to walk is Eary Cushlin which is in the West of the island. The area makes me feel very connected as my family were the last to farm the land and the last to live in the house. I love the open space, how close to home I am and how fresh the air is - it's almost always windy up there! It's the perfect place to get some head space and take a break from technology, though of course I had my phone with me so I took some photos of the views while I was walking there yesterday and wanted to share them with you. While they aren't the best of quality (my iPhone is pretty old and I was practically being blown off my feet, please do forgive me) they do show a place that I love. I hope you enjoy.

Life As A Beauty Therapy Student #2

It's been three months since my original 'Life As A Beauty Therapy Student' post and since then, things have got real. That sounds really serious but all I actually mean is the salon has opened and we've been working on real clients instead of just practising treatments on each other every day. So there were a few points I mentioned in my last post that I'd like to continue on today...

First things first I mentioned being 'on the road to my best skin ever' with the brand Dermalogica. I promised to trial their skincare range on myself at home for one month and see how things went. As much as I love (most of) their products and have no doubts that the facials we provide at the salon in college really do improve skin health, I used their products for my complete skincare regime for a little over two months and if I'm honest, not much changed. I'm happier being back with No 7. I would like to do a little shout out to some of my favourites though, them being the UltraCalming cleanser, MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque and Skin Prep Scrub.

Things with my tutor have settled down a bit and I've grown to kind of like her, I'm still never sure where I stand with her though and I'm far more relaxed when she isn't around. We had a deal regarding some bikini line waxing and making friends by Christmas that, since I'm returning from the holidays tomorrow, I am really beginning to panic about.

The work load is still pretty intense but I'm proud to say that I have been using my spare time to buckle down and tackle it. There is so much more for me to do and so much I've yet to learn but I'm on track and not bottom of the class so things are OK on that front... for now!

It's also still very expensive with home practice being a necessity, particularly now we've cover shellac and I'm buying CND products! But I have most of the things I need now and I'm really just building my collection. I have a couple of regular clients for waxes and manicures, I've started a Facebook page and things are going well. Although my prices are extremely cheap (which the people love) and don't really cover the cost of products and my time, I'm happy. I wouldn't like to charge full when I've yet to qualify.

New things that I've learnt are that facials are my favourite thing to do, when performing waxing treatments you get REALLY hot and you're always going to have a shaky hand if you try to paint nails on an empty stomach.

Happy New Year | 2015

Once again we find ourselves in a new year, though I wont say that it's a new me. Last year I did pretty well with my new years health kick, I lasted until about April! That in itself is a record for me but I wont be making any resolutions this year.

Instead, my hopes for the year are that I can be motivated, happy and healthy. I want to be optimistic about things and say yes to opportunities that come my way. I'm far too shy and sheltered and my friends don't hold back in telling me so.

In saying I want to be motivated I mean that in a few different ways. The two most important to me and relevant to you are in college and my blog.
I want to spend as much time as possible over the coming weeks getting my coursework completed and assessments ticked off so that nothing is left to the last minute or anywhere near there. I know from experience just how fast the time between Christmas and the end of the academic year can fly by. I'm slightly annoyed that I've spent this whole week being ill and not achieved what I had planned to but I suppose this can't be helped.
Secondly, with being wrapped up in college and festivities and sickness, my blog has been ever so neglected recently and it's made me realise just how much I love blogging. I've been doing it for two years this month and I'm on my third name. I'm happy with everything now from design and layout to content. I love interacting with other bloggers on Twitter and I'm very grateful for a couple of special ones who are always there to give me a shove along the way. I tried to quit blogging once but I couldn't stay away. So this year, though I can't promise to post every day and sometimes there will have to be weeks where I have minimal to none internet presence, I want to put all of my efforts into The Clumsy Beauty and this time next year I want to look back with pride.

I mentioned that I want to be happy and healthy. I'm not going to talk about weight because, quite frankly, I'm sick of hearing myself go on about it. I want to be healthy. There is a difference. My Mum bought a table tennis table at Christmas so that should be a fun way to get active. Plus I have my gorgeous dog that needs walking and a horses that needs exercising. I'm very lucky really.
So happiness. 2014 was mostly a fantastic year for me but there were lots of times when depression snook in and my attitude took a turn South. This year I'm determined not to go back there, I want every day to be a happy one. Even if it's just for an hour. This included being optimistic about the future rather than assuming the worst.

Finally, say yes to opportunities. This sounds rather cliché but I'm often one to turn down party invitations or trips to town in favour of staying at home because if I'm honest, large groups of strangers, loud music, busy shops, they terrify me! This sounds silly I've even lost job opportunities and important experiences because I'm too scared to follow them through. Basically, this year I need to be 100% more confident.

So that's me. Who knows where 2015 is going to take us?

Happy New Year! Here's hoping for a good one!
